![]() ![]() This is NOT The First Edition Library facsimile reprint (that does NOT state First Edition). At any rate, even these are not common, and for most that can't afford the original variation, this is a less expensive way of having one. Also, the dust jackets are on a slicker paper than the original jackets. These counterfeits have "paper-covered" boards, and some are stark white, as opposed to off-white. BUT, these are easily distinguishable by knowledgeable collectors, as the originals were bound in an OFF-WHITE open weave cloth (that I have had). ![]() This is an identical printing of that White "stated" FIRST Edition, that fools the uninitiated, and is very nice and identical size and printing wise. These are thus very SCARCE and highly sought-after. There were 6000 of the FIRST EDITION printed in 1948, MOST of which had a black cloth binding, but an unknown small number of that 6000 had a white cloth binding. indexed book is the Autobiography of the legendary Trappist Monk, Thomas Merton. ![]()
